About

Globally ranked.Locally rooted.Built loud.

Carousel is a cabaret-inspired 70s discotheque inside one of Darlinghurst's most storied club sites. It is new enough to feel current and established enough to carry the memory of the rooms that came before it.

The name comes from a rediscovered rotating stage. The night comes from the floor: Funktion-One sound, Amsterdam lighting, three bars and a booth built close to the crowd.

Why Carousel

How a rediscovered stage became an internationally ranked room.

Carousel Bar & Ballroom is an Oxford Street nightclub in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Opened in 2023 on one of Oxford Street's longest-running club sites, the room brings together the ranking, the sound, and the history behind it.

The ranking

Ranked No. 83 in Nightlife International's The World's 100 Best Clubs 2025, Carousel is the highest-ranked Australian nightclub on the list.

Carousel entered Nightlife International's top 100 little more than a year after opening, then climbed from No. 87 to No. 83 in the 2025 list.

Home Sydney is the only other Australian room on it, at No. 100.

The site

Carousel sits on one of Oxford Street's long-running nightlife sites, previously home to Byblos, Miind Club and Nevermind.

During the renovation, the team uncovered a rotating stage believed to date back to the Capriccio's era. That discovery gave Carousel its name and links the room to the queer, cabaret and drag history of Oxford Street.

The room

The fit-out keeps the 70s discotheque and cabaret language, then runs it through serious club infrastructure: a 58-speaker Funktion-One system, Amsterdam-imported lighting, three bars, a spacious dancefloor and a fully equipped booth.

The booth is placed close to the floor so DJs and crowd feel wrapped into the same room, instead of separated by a distant stage line.

The culture

Born from the team behind S.A.S.H, Carousel arrived with credibility among dancers, DJs and promoters before the doors had been open a year.

Since then it has hosted international and homegrown names across house, techno, disco and live performance, on a floor that keeps the focus on the music.
